Research was focused on pain points in the current system as well as areas for improvement to the user. The main focus of the design became quickly identifying the proper lens and ensuring inventory accuracy.

Initial Concept

Concept renderings showed potential for color and texture as key design features. The overall aesthetic was meant to be a departure from existing brand language while still being unmistakably Gardner Bender.

Prototype for focus group

Iterative prototyping allowed for hands on testing and evaluation of grip and ergonomics.

Concept Revision

The overall size and layout of the initial unit was a big drawback to the focus group. Additional designs used a more vertical approach while exploring construction methods to drive down cost.
